During World War II, Freddie was drafted into the Army and served for three years in Italy, Japan and the Phillipine Islands. He was a decorated enlisted man and honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1949, Freddie married Mable Alexander and to this union one daughter, Jacqueline Louise was born.
He was employed by Quaker Rubber Company and Lupton Steel until each of these companies closed their plants in this area. Freddie then worked for the City of Philadelphia at the International Airport until his retirement in 1985. That is when he said he was going to "relax" and he really did. He spent his time enjoying his family and friends and his favorite pastimes—pinochle and television. A few years ago, his health began to decline. However, after surgery last summer, Freddie started to make major strides toward recovery.
Freddie departed this life suddenly Tuesday, May 21, 1996 doing what he did best for forty-seven years—taking care of his wife.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mable; daughter Jacqueline; grandson, Kyle Sneed; god-daughter, Lauren Bruce; uncle, Judson Culbreth of Willingboro, NJ (age 91); sister-in-law, Josie Culbreth of Philadelphia, PA; Louise Singleton and Marian Robinson of Chiselhurst, NJ; Helen Jones of Willingboro, NJ; Annie Pearl Russell of Palmer Springs, VA and Eunice Howell of East Orange, NJ; four brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; several adopted grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
