Celia Pearl DENNIS was the dau. of Thomas Elmer DENNIS & Elizabeth Catherine EDWARDS. She was a sister of Mabel Mae DENNIS BRENTON & Bartie Ann DENNIS LINGO.
OBIT: "The Villisca Review", Villisca, IA on 11 Aug 1960:
Two elderly Villisca citizens expired after falls at their homes. Pearl DENNIS, whose death occurred on Monday, August 1, fell as she arose from a chair at her home Saturday, July 30, and William J. Shaver, 79, father of Mrs. Gene Brock, after having fallen down stairs at the Brock apartment ......."
"PEARL DENNIS - Funeral services for Pearl DENNIS were held on Wednesday, August 3, 1960 at 2:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Alvin SIGAFUS officiating. Pallbearers included Fen FISHER, Ernest DANIELSON, Collis MOORE, Max NORDYKE, George MULLER Jr. and Robert PATTERSON. Flowerbearers were Hazel FISHER and Ruby MOORE. Mrs. Mabel DUNN accompanied the solosit, Mrs. Carolyn HARRIS in the following selections "Prayer Perfect" and "Sunrise". Concluding service and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery with Sutphen Funeral Home in charge.
Celia Pearl DENNIS, daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth DENNIS, was born in Taylor County on December 8th, 1884 and passed away on August 1st, 1960 at the home of her sister in Villisca.
Miss DENNIS, after attending the public schools in Villisca, received her higher education at the University of Chicago. Her life's work was devoted to the teaching of children; she taught in the primary departments at Lester Albia, Centerville and Villisca. She dearly loved to teach and was in turn love by her pupils who have many fond memories of her.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mabel BRENTON of Villisca and two nephews, Judd BRENTON of Dayton Ohio and Dean BRENTON of Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents and one sister preceeded her in death.
She was a faithful member of the Villisca Presbyterian Church where she taught for many years in the Church School."
