SERVICES FOR MARY BENSON WILL BE HELD THURSDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Benson, 84, widely-known Cheyenne pioneer, who died early Monday evening at her home, 201 W. 7th, will be held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. H. M. Pingree will officiate at the services.

Mrs. Benson has been in poor health for the last nine months. During the last four months her condition was serious. Her death, expected tho it was, was a shock to her hundreds of friends.

Mrs. Benson was born in Wales July 27, 1855. Her family later moved to Liverpool, England. She was married to John Benson there.

In 1892, the Bensons came to Cheyenne with their six children. Three more sons were born to them after their arrival in this country.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Parry and their children, aunt and uncle of Mrs. Benson, came to Cheyenne in 1867. They were followed by Thomas Hughes and Mrs. Jane Cole, sister and brother of Mrs. Benson. The entire family settled in Cheyenne and reared their children here.

Mrs. Benson became a naturalized American citizen in 1937. She did not realize until that time that her late husband had not taken out citizenship papers.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Paul Milatzo, James W. Benson, Albert W. Benson, all of Cheyenne; Tom Benson, Des Moines, Ia.; Frank Benson, Taft, Cal.; John Benson, Thermopolis, Wyo.; George Benson, Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Rose Roberts, Los Angeles, Cal. and Miss Agnes Benson, Los Angeles, Cal. She is also survived by two brothers, Thomas Hughes of Cheyenne and John Hughes of Salem, Ore., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her six sons will act as pallbearers. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home of her son, Albert Benson, 2717 House, Wednesday until time of the services. The Hobb and Finkbiner mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Note: John W. Benson, Mary Ann Benson's husband, died 8 Oct 1945 in Los Angeles County, CA and his burial location is unknown.
