Ellis Garten was the editor of the Jacksonian newspaper of Cimarron during the County Seat War. He wrote some of the most colorful editorials imaginable during the conflict. Here are a couple of examples of his style.
"It is mearly a question of time before Ingalls is knocked out, and the friends that knew her once will know her no more. The town was started for no other purpose on earth than to drown Cimarron and feather the nests of a lot of the biggest schiesters ever born. A.T. Soul is mearly working the dear people for suckers."
"We are on to the lop-eared, lantern-jawed, half-bred and half-born whiskey-soaked pox-eaten pup that pretends to edit that worthless wad of subdued outhouse bug fodder known as the Ingalls Messenger. He just started out to climb the journalistic banister, and and wants us to knock the hay seed from his hair, pull the splinters out of his stern and push him on and up. We'll fool him. No free advertising from us!"
