Luther was the sixth of nine children born to Ezra and Mary 'Polly' (Tobey) Bradford.
He had 6 sisters and 2 brothers: Betsey, Mary, Ezra Jr., Susan, Rufus, (Luther), Sarah, Susan, Lucinda and Olive.
He married, circa 1830, Mary Wentworth [b 13 Aug 1807, Greenwood, Maine], daughter of Paul and Sally [Field] Wentworth of Greenwood, Maine. Luther and Mary were the parents of four children: Virgil 1831, Malvina G. 1833, Ezra 1836 and Emeline 1838-1855.
The 1840 and 1850 census records show they were living in Richmond, Lincoln County, Maine. Though a Washington County history says that Luther moved to Iowa in 1856, the 1860 census shows that he and Mary are living in Richmond, though now it is in Sagadahoc County [the county was split in 1854.]
Luther eventually moved to Lime Creek Township sometime after 1860 and lived on a farm until his death. Mary died October 17, 1866 and was buried in Kennebec County, Maine. The last ten years of his life, Luther lived in the home of his son Ezra.
