Born October 22, 1928 in Lebanon, MO, he was the son of the late Roy Blalock and Lilah Belle McKinnon Blalock. On December 21, 1951 he married Norma Stratmann who preceded him in death on August 26, 1978. On January 4, 1980 he married Jean Tucker Nisely who survives of the home.

Bob knew from an early age that his desire in life was to become a doctor. By the age of 16 he had earned enough credits to attend Culver Stockton College, though he had not even received a high school diploma. After graduating from Culver Stockton in 1948 he was accepted as one of eighty two students to attend Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, graduating in 1952. He was a member of Phi Beta Pi medical fraternity and worked his way through medical school. He spent a one year residency at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis where he gained experience with every imaginable situation. He began his internal medicine residency at St. Louis County Hospital, and joined the United States Navy attached to the Marines. Dr. Blalock was a Regimental Surgeon in the military stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC from 1954-1956. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to St. Louis County Hospital to finish the last two years of his internal medicine residency.

After completing his residency, Dr. Blalock was ready to find a permanent home, and moved to Marshall to join The Odell Avenue Clinic, which later became Missouri Valley Physicians. Dr. Blalock's career spanned decades and saw many changes in medicine, treatments, society, and the community. Through all those changes, one thing that always remained the same, in Dr. Blalock's opinion, is that the best medical care still remains with the physician making the decisions. Dr. Blalock summed it up well by saying, "There is an art to medicine, sometimes doing nothing is the best thing to do."

After moving to Marshall, he was very involved in the community. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, Missouri State Medical Association, and American Society of Internal Medicine.

In addition to his wife, Jean; he is survived by five sons: Steve Blalock of Marshall, MO, David Blalock of Royse City, TX, Bruce Blalock of Marshall, MO, Brian Blalock and wife Christy of San Diego, CA, and Charlie Blalock and wife Mechelle of Harrisonville, MO; one step-daughter, Nancy Arena of Lebanon, PA; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ellen Todd of Canton, MO, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lilah Belle; and his first wife, Norma.
