Leemon G. (L.G.) Colyer, 93, of the Woodstock community, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Elgin, Ky., August 24, 1907, son of the late Harvey Green and Mallie Davis Colyer. He was a retired U.S. Department of Agriculture employee with 34 years service and a farmer. He was a 40-year member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board of Pulaski County and served as chairman for many years; director of Cumberland Production Credit Association for 34 years and served as chairman of the board for many years; an active member of Nelson Valley Water Board for 31 years and had recently been made a lifetime member. He was a member of the Lake Cumberland Riding Club and Rockcastle County Saddle Club and was involved with many other community and civic activities, including Pulaski County Extension Council, Somerset Rotary club, Pulaski County Agriculture Council and the National Association of State and County Office Employees. He was a 60-year member of Woodstock Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, director of Baptist Training Union, Sunday School teacher of the teen-age boys class and sang in the choir. Survivors include his wife, Zella Trimble Colyer, whom he married Aug. 31, 1944, in London, Ky.; four sons, Virthel J. (and Edith) Baugh, Somerset, Vernus R. (and Barbara) Colyer, Sharonville, Ohio, Loren W. (and Joyce) Colyer, Dayton, Ohio, and Lewis E. (and Brenda) Colyer, Eubank; a daughter, Mary Ann (and Jim) May, Waynesburg; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Colyer, Eubank; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Flora M. Shelley Colyer; his parents, a son, Vincent G. Colyer; and a sister, Losie Shelley. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Woodstock Baptist Church with Bros. C. E. Hansford and Doros Zachariades officiating. Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery. Friends may call at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today and from 8 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday; also at the church after 1 p.m. Saturday until time for services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
