Birth: Jan. 23, 1967
Death: Sep., 2007
West Allis
Milwaukee County
Wisconsin, USA

Friends and co-workers believed him when David told them he was relocating to New Mexico when he quit his job back in late 2007. He was well liked and everyone wished him future success.

On January 23, 2012, a real estate worker and a locksmith entered his former home. They found David's remains on the second floor landing. He had died from a self-inflicted gun shot. The home had been awarded to the county in December 2011 in a tax foreclosure.

Neighbors thought Carter had moved away. The City cut his grass and shoveled snow, adding the cost to his property taxes, which would never be paid. After a neighbor reported a broken pipe, the utilities were turned off. The carrier stopped delivering mail when it piled up. The house was paid off and the city, faced with many unpaid tax bills, assumed the house was abandoned.

David's mother, Joanne lived with him in the house until her death in 1997 from cancer. He had no siblings and never met his father. His cousin said David never recovered from her passing and began to withdraw socially. He also assumed he moved away as planned.

David worked for over ten years in various positions at Kegel's Inn just two blocks from his house. His last job was with the City of Milwaukee, working there until his resignation in September of 2007. Graduating in 1985 from West Milwaukee High School, he earned a degree in history and political science from UWM in 1995. After starting work on a master's degree, he left it in 2000.

He is survived by an estranged daughter by an earlier relationship, although one of the notes left in house outlines items for her. He was described by his coworkers and friends as funny, smart and generous.
