George Martin Hartle Sr., 76, of Westminster, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his home.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, in Beaver Creek, he was the son of the late Charles Samuel Gantz and Edna Newcomer Hartle. He was the husband of Betty Ruth Jennings Hartle. He was retired from the State of Maryland, where he was a natural resources policeman.
He was a member of Westminster Elks Lodge V.O.P. 2277 and an avid woodworker. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons George Martin Hartle Jr. of Sharpsburg and Timothy D. Cromwell of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Debra L. and George Hirsch of Winfield; daughter Vicki L. Buda of Rome, Ga.; sisters Mary Bushey of Cave Town, Helen Wakenight of Williamsport, Lois Cavanaugh and Edna Mae McLain, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and one granddaughter-in-law. He was predeceased by a step son Terry Steven Cromwell .
Graveside services were held at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, with the Rev. John Morrill, of St. John's Lutheran Church, Westminster, officiating.
