died during the spanish flu epidemic that began in 1918. this pandemic crossed the country and then cycled back. sallie had been weakened by a bout of cholera in aug of 1919 which caused her to miscarry, so when she began to sicken in november of 1919 it is easy to understand why in the days before good antibiotics, her influenza turned to pnuemonia and caused her death after lingering. sallie is buried in an unmarked grave next to her husband albert.
