Mrs. Mary Lou Bates
Funeral for Mrs. Mary Lou Bates, 71, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Laird-McGill Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rita Sims and the Rev. Bill Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bates died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at her residence.
Born June 3, 1931 in Nacogdoches, she was the daughter of Beulah (Jones) and B.M. Hall Sr. She was the owner of Good Housekeeping Furniture for more than 20 years and was a member of Perritte Memorial Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Piney Woods Ladies Golf Association.
She was married to Ralph J. Bates of Nacogdoches, and he survives her.
In addition to her husband, survivors include sons, Ben Oliver of Nacogdoches and Glynn and Lynn Oliver both of Lufkin and James Bates of Dallas; daughter Melody Bates Birdwell of Nacogdoches; brothers, B.M. Hall Jr. and Thomas Hall, both of Melrose; sisters Catherine Simmons and Billie Currie, both of Nacogdoches; and grandchildren Zack Oliver, Carson Oliver, Heath Oliver, Alesha Oliver, Jesse Birdwell, Ashley Tesar, Mathew Tesar, Tyler Bates, Haberlyn Campbell and Treavor Campbell.
Pallbearers will include Gayle Driver, Norman Williams, Howard Radford, Johnny Williams, Paul Goforth and Max Greer.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Deep East Texas, 907 Mound St. Nacogdoches, TX 75961.
Visitation Sunday Dec. 8, 2002 from 4 to 6 p.m.
