Chris Edward DeWitt, 52, of Mt. Sterling, died Friday Jan 4, 2008 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born March 16, 1955 in Beardstown, a son of Clifford and Juanita McNeff DeWitt. He married Kristy Drake on June 15, 1991 in Mt. Sterling, and she survives.
Chris currently worked for the Illinois Laborers and Contractors Training Center in Brown County and had earlier worked for Two Rivers FS in Mt. Sterling for 29 years. He graduated from Brown County High school with the class of 1973 and was a member of the Cornerstone Chritian Church in Mt. Sterling.
Chris always enjoyed coaching his sons little league baseball teams and currently served Brown County Little League Board. He served as assistant chief for the Mt. Sterling Fire Department, was a member of the Brown County Sting Squad, and was an avid Brown County Hornets fan. Chris always enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending harness races at the Brown County Fair where for several years he assisted with the maintenance of the racetrack. In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Grant E. and Drake A. DeWitt, both at home; two brothers, Bill Clark of Springfield and Clifford A(Alan) DeWitt and his wife Linda of Mt. Sterling; his mother-in-law Caroline Drake of Perry; two brothers-in-law, John Drake and wife Penny of Mt. Sterling and Alan Drake and his wife Kathy of Macomb; four sisters-in-law, Marcy Koch and husband Tom of Mankato, MN, Tracy Lawson and husband Jack of Chambersburg, Shelly Rang and her husband David of Maryville, TN, Amy Wort and her husband Mike of Pawnee, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and his father-in-law Albert "Abby" Drake preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 9, 2008 at the Cornerstone Christian Church in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Martin and Rev Dale Gadberry officiating. Burial will be in Benville Cemetery in Brown County.
