George Marion Carson was born April 12, 1858 in Tyler County on a farm near Woodville, Texas, He was the second child of eight for to John ad Mary Jane Davis Carson. The Davis family came to Texas from North Carolina in 1852, and the Carson family came from Mississippi. The two families settled on neighboring farms in Tyler County. John Carson served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. John Carson and Mary Jane Davis were married in Woodville in 1853, and later moved to Blanco, where George attended a county school in Blanco and as a young man worked on his father's farm, and went twice up the Chisholm Trail to Abilene, Kansas and Cheyenne, Wyoming, with cattle drives. He was a member of the Old Trail Drivers Association.
