Annalu E. Ambrosia, 88, of Willmathsville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday (December 5, 2007) at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
The daughter of Virgil O. and Bertha (Clarkson) Erwin, she was born October 18, 1919 in Schuyler County, Missouri. On April 7, 1945 in Queen City, Missouri, Annalu was united in marriage to Leo P. Ambrosia who preceded her in death on November 29, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one stillborn son, Billy on September 8, 1946; four sisters, Hazel Church and her twin Helen Yantis, Doris Anderson and Bula James; one brother, Virgil Lyle Erwin and three nephews, Billy Church, Ray Church and Leroy Erwin.
Annalu is survived by two sons, Buddy Leo Ambrosia and Charles Erwin "Chuck" Ambrosia both of Greentop, MO; one daughter, Anne Sue Baker and husband Charles of Brashear, MO; four grandchildren, Brett Baker and wife Kelli, Brock Baker and wife Sara, Anthony Ambrosia and Lisa (Ambrosia) Howard and husband Jim; three great-grandchildren, Will and MacKenzie Baker and Gwendolyn Howard; three step-great grandchildren, Jessica, Joseph and Justin Rudd; one great great-grandson, Bradey Reardon; one sister, Bina James and husband Boyd and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Annalu attended Hazel Green rural school and graduated Valedictorian from the Brashear High School. She then attended four years of college at Kirksville State Teachers College. Annalu taught a total of thirty years at Oak Grove and Bible Grove schools in Downing, before retiring from the Brashear public school. While teaching, she was a member of the Missouri State Teacher's Association and served a clerk for rural Willmathsville school.
Annalu was baptized many years ago and was a member of the Willmathsville Church where she served as a Sunday School officer and taught Sunday School class.
While in high school, Annalu participated in several sports, including track, softball and played basketball where she set the school's record for girl's basketball points in a single game, which is still the standing record to this day. She always enjoyed watching sports on television and following area sporting events.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday (December 8, 2007) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Dan Todd officiating. Interment will follow the service at Willmathsville Cemetery in Willmathsville.
Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Friday (December 7, 2007) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Casket bearers will be Frank Collop, Garry Taylor, John Taylor, Keith Story, Phillip March and James Scudder.
