Janet Alling Nelson Bond was born Aug. 25, 1914, to Robert and Anna Maria Nelson on a farm north of Gresham that her grandfather homesteaded after the Civil War.
Janet, the first child in their family, was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Frances; and two brothers, Harold and Arthur Nelson. Janet passed away in Fairmont, Feb. 6, 2003.
Janet completed her elementary and secondary education in the Gresham area before commencing her college education. Entering Park College, Kansas City, immediately after graduation, she transferred to the University of Nebraska for her second year. Later she completed her Bachelor's, Master's of Education/Counseling, and all but a dissertation for her Doctorate of Education at Arizona State University.
Janet married Floyd O. Bond on May 28, 1939, in Gresham. To this union was born two sons, F. Tim and G. Buck. Tim and his wife Nancy live in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., and Gresham. Buck and his wife Earlene live in Mesa, Ariz. They have two children, Scott of New York City and Michelle of Mesa.
Metz Mortuary handled cremation and the family is tentatively planning a service in Celebration of Her Life on Memorial weekend in May. Memorial contributions may be made in Janet's name to the Gresham Presbyterian Church.
