William Joseph ‘Joe' Dickerhoff, 35, Denver, passed away at 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at his residence, surrounded by the loving comfort of his family after a courageous five-month battle with cancer.

He was born on November 11, 1970 in Cass County to Victor T. ‘Ted' Dickerhoff, Jr. and Patricia Sue Slifer-Dickerhoff. On February 11, 2003, he married Heather Ann Hoover in Peru, and she survives.

Dickerhoff was proud to serve the people of his county as Miami County animal control officer, and he continued to do his job throughout his illness. Prior to his employment with the county, he operated his own business, Joe's Mobile Home Service, for several years. Dickerhoff enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and going to demolition derbies. He loved spending time outdoors, especially at night.

Aside from his wife, Dickerhoff is survived by his mother, who resides in Denver; four children, Michael J. Dickerhoff, Kokomo, Caitlyn D. Dickerhoff, Peru, Todd J. Dickerhoff, Peru, and Allie A. Dickerhoff, Denver; one step-daughter, Baleigh A. Hendrix, Denver; five brothers, Rollie Dickerhoff and wife Freda, Peru, Dan Schramm and wife Brenda, London, England, Jeff Schramm and wife Estee, Peru, Matt Dickerhoff, Peru, and Steven Dickerhoff, Peru; four sisters, Vickie McElheny, Denver, Jackie Burnett and husband Todd, Gilead, Amber Dickerhoff, Peru, and Crystal Dickerhoff, Peru.

He was preceded in death by his father.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Dan Schramm officiating.

Burial will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses incurred throughout his illness.
