Minnie Lee Bryant Belew, 78, of Charlottesville, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family and friends on Thursday, December 6, 2007.

Minnie married the love of her life, Herbert Wesley Belew at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on September 15, 1951, in Greenwood, Virginia. During their 56 years of marriage they had three children, Deborah B. Best, Lisa L. Belew and John W. Belew. Minnie was famous for her technique with children of all ages, family and her church. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Avon Street Extd for 40 years. She was instrumental in helping to develop the ARC in Charlottesville, Virgina, and helping with many fundraisers in the early 1960s.

Her hobbies were walks on the beach and in the mountains. She also loved to cook for large family gatherings.

During her lifetime, Minnie worked at the packing shed in Afton, Virginia, where she met her husband. She also worked at the sewing factory in Woodstock, Virginia, and Allen Printing Company in Charlottesville and babysat for numerous families for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Stonewall Jackson Bryant; and her mother, M. Clara Lowe Bryant, both of Afton, Virginia; and her brother, William S. Bryant, of Goochland, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert W. Belew; two daughters, Deborah B. Best and her husband, Jerry, and Lisa L. Belew, both of Charlottesville; a son, John W. Belew of Charlottesville; two brothers, James E. Bryant and his wife, Linda, and Benny G. Bryant and his wife, Janet, all of Afton, Virginia; two granddaughters, Nickie B. Schoolcraft, and her husband, C.W., and Terri Jo Belew, all of Charlottesville; one great-granddaughter, Ally M. Schoolcraft of Charlottesville; four sistersin-law, Mildred H. Bryant of Goochland, Doris B. Ayres of Earlysville, Mary M. Belew of Charlottesville, and Jane Belew of Earlysville; two brothers-in-law, Vernon B. Belew and his wife, Gladys, of Waynesboro, and H. Clifton Belew of Scottsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring her memory will be the following pallbearers, James E. Bryant, Benny G. Bryant, C.W. Schoolcraft, Jerry L. Best, Kenny Lawhorne, and Benji Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be David Bryant, Lester Bryant, Michael Bryant, Parker Bryant, Matthew Bryant and Mark Bryant.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to close friend and neighbor, Nellie McConchie for her loving care and assistance during our greatest time of need. We would also like to thank the loving staff at University of Virginia Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont.

The family will receive family and friends from 7 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2007, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Calvary Baptist Church on Avon St. Extd, with Dr. Rick Sadler officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.
