Catherine "Kate" Mode, the 4th of 7 children born to Valentine Mode (1829-1870) and Katherine Schilche aka Schilger (1826-1900)(my husband's gg-grandparents).
Kate never married but worked as a servant and cook for various families throughout her life.
In the 1900 census she worked as a servant for Mrs. Eleanor Knapp at 4030 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO;
In the 1910 census, she worked as a Cook for the John J. Knox family at 114 West Del Norte, Colorado Springs, Colorado;
In the 1920 census whe was working as a Cook for the Clarence H. Morgan family at 4643 Draper Ave. & East 47th Sts., Chicago, Ill;
and in the 1930 census she was back in Granite City, Madison Co., Illinois, living with her brother, George, 80, and niece Minta Mode, 31.
We would love to have pictures of these old homes and/or pictures of these families for our Family Tree. My husband's great grand aunt Kate obviously worked hard all her life.
