|Death: ||Jan. 30, 1870|
Leoise Bright was born about 1848 in Ohio. Her parents have not been able to be verified although the search continues.
We do know Leoise Bright married JOHN RICHARD KING (ca 1846-?) ca 1863 and had 5 children that we know of:
1) Alpharetta King Ridgway (1866-1946;
2) Alphreda King (ca 1867-?)
3) Rosetta "Etta" R. King Schulz (1868-?)
4) Olive King Hitchcock (1869-?)
5) Lillie Mae King Wells (1870-1895.
Leoise died giving birth to her last daughter, Lillie Mae King, in Sullivan County, Indiana.
Two Davidson families in Sullivan County took two of the little girls and raised them as their own: Alpharetta and Lillie Mae. George & Sophia Davidson of Haddon, Sullivan County, IN raised Alpharetta and Dudley & Elizabeth Davidson of Haddon, Sullivan Co., IN raised Lillie Mae.
What happened to John Richard King is the source of many family stories -- one of which was he went off to found the King Ranch in Texas (not true). Another family story is that John King killed a man in Ohio when he was on leave from the Civil War which is why the entire family moved to Indiana where Leoise died in childbirth. There are so many versions of the latter story, that we are still trying to verify this through newspaper or historical accounts.
Leoise Bright and John Richard King are the gg-grandparents of a dear friend of mine -- Mary -- and we would love to communicate with any descendants of this family.
