Son of Josephine and photographer Victor Keppler, and brother to Victoria Keppler Merl, Herbert's reputation and name (Bert to close family and friends) is synonymous with photography and sold his photos taken while still a student at Admiral Farragut Academy. He earned a degree at Harvard. Bert served in the U.S. Navy's Pacific Theater of World War II - earned rank of lieutenant.
As a civilian after WWII, his career in photojournalism progressed from newspaper to magazines and finally "Popular Photography."
He was a photo industry publisher and commentator pioneer. Keppler leaves behind in this life, his wife Louise, and children Tom and Kathy. Died in Westchester, New York.
Presented with "The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette" at a splendid conferment ceremony held at the Japanese Consulate, NYC, New York 12/2002, by Ambassador Yoshihiro Nishida, Consul General of Japan.
