Youngest son of Charles H Bantau and Louisa R Simpson Bantau. James B's father Charles H died at the age of 27 years from tuberculosis which had not yet been discovered. James B's mother Louisa R Simpson was remarried to JW Hartsfield. The officiating minister was Reverend Henry Day Bantau, the father of Charles H Bantau.
