Marine Cpl. Thomas H. Baker has become the fourth Montcalm County serviceman to die in the war in Vietnam. Corporal Baker was born in Lansing Sept. 28, 1945 and was a lifelong resident of N. lincoln St. he was a 1965 graduate of Central Montalm High School where he won four letters in both football and track and three lettters in basketball He was an Eagle Scout in the Stanton Boy Scout Troop and was an holder of an International Certificate in scuba diving. After his high school graduation, Corporal Baker attended Ferris State College until enlisting in the Marine Corps in January, 1966. he had been stationed in Vietnam since last july. Announcement of Corporal Baker's death was withheld until his parents, who were traveling between destinations in Florida, had been notified. Besides his parents, survivors include a brother, Marine Sgt. H. W. Baker, honolulu, who is escorting his brother's body to Stanton, a sister, Mrs Stanley (Penny) Thomsen, rural Stanton, his maternal grandmother, Mrs Katherine Cady, St. Pereraburg, Fla, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Orra Baker, Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be announced by Stebbins Funeral Home, Stanton, upon arrival of the body, The United States Marine Corps is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund ofr Corporal Baker has been established and contributions may be made at Central Moncalm High School, Montcalm Central Bank in Stanton or Sheridan, and at Stebbins Funeral Home.
