Oliver Farnsworth
Birth: Jun. 18, 1796
Windsor County
Vermont, USA
Death: Dec. 24, 1882
Defiance County
Ohio, USA

Oliver and Edna (King) Farnsworth are my 2nd great, grandparents. Oliver was born in Vermont to Abijah Farnsworth & Betsy Peck. Oliver went to Canada to learn the carpenters trade and was a "Housewright" (1830 Boston City Directory): A high grade carpenter who worked on houses.
Oliver was first married to 1)Nancy Rice and they had one son, Milo Farnsworth in Homer, Cortland County, New York in 1822. His first wife died in 1824 and he later married 2)Edna King in Boston, 18 Jan 1827. They moved to New york City about 1833 but found that was not where they wanted to raise their family. They took a canal boat (Erie Canal) to the lakes and settled in Ohio. They were in Stark County, Ohio for awhile. Here he worked at his trade of carpenter and joiner for four years. In the fall of 1840, he brought the family to Definace County, Ohio, and located in Milford Township. He lived on what is now known as the Adam Rhiele farm, where he started to clear land and make a home for his family. He and his wife lived with their daughter Ellen Hulbert and her husband, Clement,in their latter years. (1880 Census). He died on December 24, 1882, at the age of eight-six years and six months. His wife survived him about six years. She died August 14, 1888, at the age of seventy-eight years. "Thus passed away two of Defiance County's honored pioneers and highly respected citizens." They are buried in Forest Home Cemetery at Hicksville, Ohio. They were the parents of twelve children, two of whom died in infancy and they also raised an adopted a daughter.

OBITUARY: The Hicksville News, December 28, 1882 p4 c4
From Six Corners
"A large number of friends, relatives and neighbors met at the church today (Tuesday) to pay the last tribute of respect to Oliver Farnsworth who departed this life Sunday evening, Dec. 24th, aged 86 years. To the old settlers of this part of the county Mr. Farnsworth was well known as a farmer, mechanic and an industrious man. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Persin, of Bryan, using a portion of scripture found in the 90th Psalm for a subject. The deceased was taken to the Hicksville Cemetery for interment.
