ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—Howard Eugene "Gene" Darnell, 78, of Muscatine passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Trinity West Medical Center in Rock Island.

Howard Eugene Darnell was born on Jan. 25, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Lucille (Nelson) Darnell. On Feb. 24, 1951, Gene was united in marriage to Nancy- Jo Busch in Iowa City. He was later united in marriage to Dorothy Woodson on Feb. 4, 2010 in Muscatine.

He had been a previous member of the Masonic Lodge.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorothy of Muscatine; two children, Tommy (Carolyn) Darnell of Lakewood, Wash., and Ronald Darnell of Mt. Dora, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melissa Darnell, Anastasia Darnell, Jo-Ell Darnell and Annabellé (John) Miller; two step-granddaughters, Angie Bream-Dayton and Doris West; eight great-grandchildren; one special great-granddaughter, Emma Rae; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Nancy-Jo in 1998; one daughter, Syvilla Christina Flores; one grandson, Tommy Eugene Darnell, Jr. and several good friends.
