Atwood was the son of Samuel and Martha Ragsdale Willoughby. He married Mahulda Patterson, daughter of Neil William Patterson and Mahulda Grennad. They had three daughters, Aramittie Clay, Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) and Serilda Frances and a son, James Franklin, who died young.
In the 1910 census, he was living with his daughter Mittie and son-in-law Sidney Philip Hardcastle in Warren County, Ky. He was taken to Western Lunatic Asylum Aug. 15, 1910 for reasons unknown at this time. His cause of death was "exhaustion due to chronic mania." He was my great-grandfather.
