Was a teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, went to a seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, and was ordained in 1845. His assigned parish included the Town of Kanza, which later became Kansas City, Missouri. Father Donnelly recorded much of the early history of Kansas City Missouri, by keeping records of births, deaths, baptisms, marriages, etc. As the city grew, he later sold some church property to accquire land for Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery, where he is buried.
