| Birth: | May 9, 1892 | | Death: | May 24, 1963 | Son of David and Margaret Wallace, brother of Bess Truman. He was married to the daughter of the Independence Examiner Publisher William Southern Jr. His grandfather George P. Gates built and lived in what would later become the Truman Home. George Gates gave both of Bess Truman's brothers land for their houses. So George Wallace and his wife Mary lived in one of the two houses next door to the Truman Home. Mary attended the January 1945 inauguration of Harry S. Truman when he became Vice President of the United States, and was a frequent guest at the White House after Truman became President of the United States. George Wallace was also the person that heard the shot, and went into the room to find that Bess Truman's father (also his father) had shot himself in 1903 (suicide).
