Williams County
Ohio, USA
Death: Apr. 5, 1980

Murder Victim. Sr. Margaret Ann Pahl was the nun whose muder shocked all of America in April of 1980 when her body was discovered in Mercy Hospital's (Toledo, Ohio) sacristy the day before Easter. The case went cold for 26 years. In 2004, a priest was arrested and charged with the 1980 murder. On April 17, 2006 the Rev. Gerald Robinson went on trial accused of murder in the death of the nun. It is the first trial in United States history where a priest is charged with murdering a nun. April 6, 1980 would have been Sr. Pahl's 72nd birthday.
On May 11, 2006 Rev. Gerald Robinson was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the murder. A new novel about the murder called "Sin,Shame and Secrets" was written in 2006 by Toledo Blade Religion Writer David Yonke. It is the only known case in US history where a priest was charged and convicted of murdering a nun.
