Bolesław Romanowski was a commodore in Polish navy, hero of World War II, commander of submarines ORP Jastrząb, ORP Dzik, ORP Sokół and commander of a submarine squadron. As one of the officers of a submarine ORP Wilk he patrolled the Bay of Gdańsk in September 1939, later, after successful escape to England, patrolled the North Sea. As the commander of ORP Dzik he served in the Mediterranean Sea, where he sank 5 enemy ships and 3 landing boats.

As one of the very few Polish officers Bolesław Romanowski decided to return to Poland after the war. After his return he was repressed and persecuted by Polish communist authorities.
