(Obituary written in German, translated)
Christian Auch son of Adam Auch and Barbara, nee Metz [see NOTE below], was born on 3rd of March 1846 in Johannestal, South Russia. He was as a small child baptized and later joined the Lutheran Church. He was also confirmed in the same church. On the 3rd of January 1866 he was joined in marriage with Rosina, nee Delzer. This marriage was blessed with ten children, of which four went before him in death in March of 1886. In June of the year 1873 he moved with his family and other relatives from his homeland and came in August of the same year here to America. Next he moved to Yankton County in the area of Lesterville, however in the following spring he moved on to Hutchinson County to a homestead in the Johannestal area, in the vicinity of the Wolf Creek Colony. This was from the beginning his home until the end. In the years of 1886 - 1888 he had a store in Menno and in 1913 he moved with his wife to Menno to retire. In 1916 his wife passed away and after this he moved back to the homestead to live until the end with his son, Emanuel. For a short while he lived with his daughter, Mrs. David Heckenlaible and also with his son, John in whose home he passed away. But the old homestead was and remained his home. He passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 17 days. He left behind 6 children: Sophie, Mrs. Heberle, Golden Valley, N.D.; Katharina, Mrs. David Heckenlaibel, Menno; Rosina, Mrs. Bauer, Harold, S.D.; John from Freeman, Magdalena, Mrs. Riedlinger [Redlinger], Colome, S.D.; Emanuel from Freeman. He also left behind 46 grandchildren, 22 greatgrandchildren, one brother, Friedrich Auch from Hebron N.D., and many relatives and friends who mourn his death. For a full 40 years he served this church as a member of the congregation and for many years read the sermons on Sunday when there was no pastor there. Until his end he attended church services as regularly as possible and showed great interest for the truth of the Word; and it was his desire that his children and grandchildren would adhere to it as well and not to forsake the faith. May the Lord comfort those that remain behind with His Word.

NOTE:
There is some discrepancy regarding Christian's mother's maiden name. His obituary states that his mother's maiden name is "Barbara Metz". Arlo Auch's Auch Family History: History & Record of Descendants of Jacob, Christian & Friedrich Auch, published in 1991, states that Christian's mother's name is Barbara Englehardt. The IGI (LDS International Genealogical Index) cites her name "Barbara Englehardt". Furthermore, the Ancestry Library World Tree Project has George Adam Auch's first wife's name as Barbara Schatz and they had a daughter, Barbara (b. 7 Apr 1834, d. 9 Dec 1869). And his second wife, according the the Ancestry Libary World Tree Project, was Anna Barbara Hetzel who went by her middle name Barbara and they had - Katharina, Johann Jakob, Elisabetha, Carolina (died at age of 1), Christian, and Friedrich. Uwe Zimbelmann, a German genealogist that has done extensive family research in native Germany also has Barbara Hetzel.
