Jewell Ward was born in Missouri on Aug 1, 1895. Her parents were William Leonard Ward and Elizabeth Carl. Jewell was the youngest of 12 children born to William Leonard Ward. She was named "Jewell" because she looked like a little jewel.

Jewell married Paul McKinley Tinsley on Oct 7, 1916 in Harrisonville, Missouri. They had one child Gloria Pauline.

Jewell lived in North Dakota for a while, when her husband taught at the State Teacher's College in Dickinson, North Dakota. She also lived in Palo Alto, California where she was roughly one of the 30th or 40th employees hired by Hewlett Packard (she knew both men personally).

Later Jewell moved to Denver, Colorado. She and Paul M. Tinsley were divorced. Jewell was a school teacher for many years.

Jewell died on Jan 24, 1989 in Denver, Colorado. She was survived by her daughter Gloria Pauline, her three grandsons Ronald, Robert, and Roger Paul, and great-grandchildren Paul, Suzanne, and Trisha.

Jewell was a member of a historical group related to the Civil War (her father served under General Sherman). She said she was one of 6 surviving members, but we don't know which group.
