Sophia Maggie Hampe and Howard Holmes Findley
They were married on October 18 1888.
In Somerset County, Pennsylvania.


When Maggie Sophia husband Howard Holmes Findley, died she was left to raise the children on her own.

She took this opportunity to relocate to Allegheny County with the children.
Where she able obtained and own sewing machine agency, in Pittsburgh PA.


Maggie feeling that an education was necessary to her and was preparing her selves by entering a business college. Maggie was trying to do her best to make a good living for her and the children.

When Maggie died it end-all her hopes and dreams.

It was all left in god hands to watch the children.

When Sophia (Maggie) Hampe Findley was dying she asked her sister Loretta for help find home for the children. Loretta was raised with good Christian values she stepped up to the task; after Maggie had passed away she was brought back to Somerset Co she was buried beside her husband Howard Home Findley.

The children were still little babies she looked after them like their own mother. Loretta have picked up where her sister left off and she wrote numerous letters to the children aid to society in Somerset Co. PA asking for help to find home for her nieces and nephews. It took about a year; they were able to find an orphanage that would take my grandfather Oscar Cleveland Findley and his brother Maurice.

On March 15, 1898 Loretta signed over the children to the orphanage. Oscar sister were sent to school for girls in Maryland. Loretta did this out of love for her nieces and nephews. To give them the best chance in life.


Old stone in the cemetery read,
Gideon German reform and Lutheran church cornerstone laid May 19, 1811 dedicated 1819.

Plot: Margaret Sophia, coffin arrived by train today Jan 31, 1898 at Rockwood train station. She was brought back from Allegheny County. Graveside services were held by the family then she was laid to rest beside her husband Howard Holmes Findley and child.
