Iris Owen Kirby, 81 of Huddleston, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was born on Monday, September 7, 1931 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Willie Isaac Owen and Valle Elizabeth Cobb Owen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lindbergh Kirby, Sr., as well as four sisters & three brothers. She was a Antique Dealer, a lover of local history and genealogy, and a member of the Friends of New London, VA Historical Museum, the Bedford Gen. William R. Terry Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Bedford City/County Museum and Mentow Baptist Church and attended Huddleston Community Church. Surviving is her Sandra K. Brookshier & husband, Larry of Bedford; two sons, Marvin (Lynn) Kirby, Jr. & wife, Debbie, Ivan K. Kirby & fiancee, Dawn Rice, all of Bedford; grandsons, Todd Brookshier, Ryan Overstreet, Nicholas Kirby, Claytor Isaac Kirby and granddaughters, Leigh Rittenhouse, Catherine Kirby, Avie Kirby, Hannah Kirby & Lillian Kirby. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11 AM at Mentow Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Soult & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 6 from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston
