Birth: Jun. 25, 1867
Provincia di Cosenza
Calabria, Italy
Death: Jan. 20, 1948
Colorado, USA

John Guadnola was born in the small town of Grimaldi Italy. He sailed to Brazil around the late 1800s or early 1900s to help his brother with a coffee plantation. Without any true form of transportation other than walking or catching a ride from a stranger, John slowly made his way to Colorado. John worked as a Miner in the Lake City Colorado area and eventually Glenwood Springs. One of his jobs was to clear rock slides from the main roadway (which is now I-70) for just a dollar a day. After his 12 hour shift, he had to walk into town and give the county commissioner 10 cents of his dollar.

John is remembered as a kind man with a good sense of humor. It is said he could do an impression of anybody.

During the Great Depression John Guadnola fed the entire neighborhood with his garden and eggs from his chickens. His daughter Patsy remembers delivering the eggs to neighbors and being told by her parents not to accept a penny from anyone.

The more I learn about you the more I wish I had known you. You were a great man. I will tell my children and my children's children about you. God bless you Great Grandpa.
