William's marker has not yet been located online, but Sinking Spring, PA - just outside outside of Reading - would seem a good place to start. There's a possibility it hasn't been photographed or catalogued for online use; it's also possible he was cremated or is buried elsewhere. Date of death is an estimate.
William is listed on some geneaological charts as the "Unknown Melcher," and it's not hard to see why. In his first marriage, he fathered two children with Emma M Huber (1870 - 1935):
Florence Melcher (1888 - 1963)
George Nelens Melcher (1890 - 1962)
When William and Emma Huber parted ways, the latter married Edward C Haggerty. Her children assumed Edward's name, and several family trees show Edward as Florence and George's biological father - which in most every way, he was.
William's second marriage was to an Emma Porter (b. 1864), and it has been harder for we family members to accurately trace it back to his first, made all the more confusing by the presence of more than one contemporary William C Melcher! Joseph Melcher, for example, is not William's father, yet his son shares a nearly identical name, birthdate and birthplace!
Williams' actual parents are Martin Van Buren Melcher (1837 - 1868) and Elizabeth Cramp (1837 - 1922).
William and Emma Porter had four children:
Harold Porter Melcher (14 Apr 1895 - 1983)
William C Melcher Jr (27 Aug 1896 - Apr 1985)
Charles P Melcher (10 Jul 1900 - 10 Aug 1981)
Martin Melcher (b. 1904)
Martin V B Melcher (1857 - 1868)
Elizabeth Cramp Melcher (1837 - 1922)

Emma Huber Haggerty (1870 - 1935)*
