Robert Jess "Tiny" Armendariz, 62, died from cardiac arrest early Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.
He was born October 8, 1950 in Deming to Guadalupe Armendariz-Ruiz and Jesse Armendariz.
Tiny was raised in Los Angeles where he married Irma Fragoso and the couple had a son, Roman Gabriel.
Following his divorce, he moved to Deming in 1975 where remarried in March of 1983. From the marriage he has two daughters, Valerie, of California; and Bobbi Marie Gray, of Utah.
During his life, Tiny worked for Dunne's Automotive, Western Furniture, Farmer's Inc., .and finally, The Deming Public Schools, as a crossing guard.
He was crossing guard for the past 18 years, primarily in front of Deming Intermediate School.
He was an active member of the sports community in Deming where he played fast-pitch softball, umpired and coached Little League Baseball. He ended his playing career as a slow-pitch softball legend.
Tiny was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Joe Ruiz and an infant brother, Richard Armendariz and step-brother, Ronald Ruiz.
He is survived by his son and daughters, brothers, Billy Ray Armendariz and his wife Becky, Daniel Anthony Armendariz and his wife Sheri, of Rio Rancho, NM; and Adrian Rene Armendariz and his wife, Dr. Marina Armendariz.
He is also survived by five step-brothers, Tommy Ruiz, Michael Ruiz, Steve Ruiz, Joey Ruiz and David Ruiz; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Deming. A Rosary will follow at 6 p.m.
The mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Fr. Ron Machado officiating. Cremation will follow.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
