Sarah Ellen Barr Chambers died on April 25, 1916 in Miami County, Indiana at the age of 69 years 3 months 9 days due to Bright's disease (now known as chronic kidney disease). Based on this, her birth is approximated as 16 January 1847 and born in Miami County, Indiana to unknown father Barr born in Ohio and mother Rachel Daner Unknown maiden name Barr who was born in Kentucky.
She first married Sterling Chambers on March 1, 1859. To this union they had 8 children: Joseph Chambers (1858-?), Albert S. Chambers (1861-1938), Andrew J. Chambers (1864-1941), Sarah Jane Chambers (1865-1949), Emanuel Chambers (1868-?), Louisa Chambers (1869-?), Harriet Louise Chambers Griffith (1872-1938), and Della Chambers McCoy Townsend King (1875-1939).
Sterling died in Erie Township, Miami County, Indiana about 1877. Sarah then married Sterling's younger brother, Joseph Chambers on August 20, 1878 in Miami County, Indiana. They had two children: Rosetta May Chambers Townsend (1880-1961) and Daniel Franklin Chambers (1883-1954).
She was buried in Shrock Cemetery but no stone has been found.
