|Death: ||Mar., 1886|
Andrew J. Coggburn was born about 1866 in Taney County, MO, the son of James M. & Frances Coggburn. Andy was raised in what is today known as the Kirbyville/Mincy area. His father was killed in 1879 in the role of Taney County Deputy while pursuing horse thieves in the Bee Creek vicinity. Coggburn became a victim in a string of killings and revenge killings during the turbulent & violent years of the mid-1880's in Taney County. He was shot by Nat Kinney at the Oak Grove School just off present day Highway "T" near Kirbyville. On May 29, 1886 his personal affects fetched about $62 when sold at public auction at Forsyth, MO; including $1.05 paid for a revolver he allegedly pulled on Kinney just prior to his death. Although there is no official record he was buried in the VanZandt Cemetery, it was one of the closest burial grounds to the Coggburn home and the site where his grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Allen Coggburn, who lived to be 92 and died in 1923 is buried as well as other members of his immediate and distant family.
