Lela Annie Myrtle Brandon married Robert Lee Peyton. They were my paternal Great Grandparents. I never met her because she died long before my birth.

Together, "Papa" (Bob Peyton) and Lela had (8) children - (2) boys, and (6) girls. The boys were Winford P.and Harold T. The girls were Ethel, Verna L., Bonnie L., Vergie E., and Pauline. (As if this date, 9/1/2014, only Pauline is living. What a testament to her tenacity!)

Tragedy would strike early in the family. Vergie died at the approximate age of (14) of an unidentified crippling illness. Then, tragically during WWII, the Peyton family would have to bury their Tech Sgt. son, Harold.

Here is a complete list of the children's Memorial #'s to this date:

Vergie E. Peyton - 82873202
Harold T. Peyton - 68916875
Verna L. Haven - 82873050
Ethel Haven - 115297748
Bonnie L. Grady - 39989711
Winford P. Peyton- 18682732
Flossie I. Peyton- 73857773

Per Audrey Brown's work on the "Brown Family Tree" posted on ancestry.com, Great Grandmother Lela Peyton's parents were Samuel P. Brandon and Elizabeth Ann Johnston. She lists James Leroy Johnson and Mary Eleanor Johnston as my Great Grandmother Lela's maternal Grandparents; Henry George Johnson and Susan Martha Kinkaid are listed as Gr. Grandmother Lela's Great Grandparents.

Audrey Brown also has a picture of the entire Lela & Robert Peyton family posted on ancestry.com, which she has shared with me and numerous others as public record. (She has researched this branch of the family to ancestors born in the early 1800's.) Thank you, Audrey!

I never met you, Great Grandmother, Lela Peyton. I wish I had.
