Obit. of James Keltner Hawkins
James Keltner Hawkins, 97, of Canton, Mo., known to many friends and family as K, left this earth on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 in the Lewis County Nursing Home, Canton, Mo.
Mr. Hawkins was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Monticello, Mo., a son of James William and Ella Day Hawkins. He was the beloved husband of R. Eloise Hawkins (Jaques) for 75 years. They recently celebrated their anniversary on June 18, 2012.
He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton, Mo., for almost 30 years and previously was a member of the LaGrange Methodist Church for almost as long, where he was "Superintendent" for 5 years. He was a certified Lay Leader in Immanuel Methodist Church in Canton. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII & Korean Conflict, where he received a special commendation. For 75 years he was a member at Masonic Lodge 58 at Monticello. He was a former member and Past Patron of Eastern Star, Canton, and member and Past Watchman of the Shepherds of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Quincy, Ill.
He retired from Gardner Denver Compressor after 30 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest joys were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was also always ready with a joke.
He was the dear father of James A. (Judy) Hawkins, Terry Hawkins, and Debra (Dan) Mitchell. He was grandfather to James F. (Kelly) Hawkins, Jason (Shelley) Hawkins, Jacob (Stephanie) Hawkins, Austin Keltner Hawkins and Helena Hawkins. He was great grandfather to Brian James (Colleen) Hawkins, Calvin Hawkins, Peyton Hawkins, Braden Knoesel, Bennett Hawkins, Lakyn Hawkins and Reese Hawkins. He was also great, great grandfather to Dominic Hawkins and Hudson James Hawkins. He was also a loving uncle, cousin and great friend to many people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton with Pastor Amanda Ross officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Pallbearers will be: James Hawkins, Jason Hawkins, Jacob Hawkins, Braden Knoesel, Brian Hawkins, Calvin Hawkins and John Torbert.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Couples Class of Immanuel United Methodist Church.
Music is provided by Karla McReynolds, organist and W. E. Dorris, vocalist.
The family suggests memorials be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church.
