Frank Gillette Died on Thursday
The remains of Frank Gillette were brought to this village following his death early Thursday morning at his home at Schuyler Lake after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Gillette had been a patient at the Cooperstown hospital for three weeks and had been in the care of a nurse at his home for two weeks.
Funeral services were held at the home of his nephew Bert Gullerat on Lamb Avenue Saturday afternoon and burial was made in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Rev. W.V. TeWinkel officiated and the bearers were, Elmer Spainer, Harry Feeley, Merrion Olds and Arthur Butler.
Mr. Gillette was 76 years of age and had been a resident of Canastota for nearly 40 years and for most of that period was in business here. About a year ago after definitely retiring from business he bought a small farm at Schuyler Lake and moved there to engage in the poultry business but on account of gradually failing health had not been able to engage in the business on a very large scale personally.
Was Native of Phoenix
The deceased was a native of Phoenix and came from that place to Canastota. For many years he ran a café here and also a restaurant in connection with it. Twelve years ago he closed the café business and continued with the restaurant end of the business in which he was very successful. Several years ago he sold the business and the three story block in which he was located to Elmer Spainer and subsequently conducted restaurants at other locations in the business section. Three years ago he retired from all business.
The deceased is survived by his wife who was formerly Miss Margaret Tritch of Phoenix and an adopted daughter Madeline and a niece and nephew, Mrs. Elizabeth Feeley and Bert Gullerat.
