Cornelius D.Sanford

Cornelius D. Sanford died at his home in the village Saturday evening at the age of 76 years, after a few day's illness from pneumonia.
Mr.Sanford was born and reared in New Kingston, the son of William Sanford and his wife, Harriet Dumond. His life with the exception of the last few years, was spent there and there he was buried on Tuesday.
Mr. Sanford was ever one of the leading men of his community. prosperous, honest, respected, one of the kind of men of which the sinews of the nation are made. He was one of the pioneers in New Kingston. About ten years ago he removed to Margaretville and it was here, as stated above, that his death occurred.
He was twice married, his first wife being Sarah Faulkner who died about 15 years r. To them 12 children were born of whom the following survive: Frank,Herman B.,George, John H., William C., Lyman F., and E. J. Sanford, Mrs. Mary Simmons of Englewood, Mrs. Sarah E. Hodge of Walton, Mrs. Emily J. Vermilyea of Halcottsville.
About 18 years ago he was married to Mrs. M. Faulkner who with one daughter, Hazel Pearl, also survives.
The funeral was held from the New Kingston church at one o'clock Tuesday Rev. W.T. Warnock officiating, and the sons acting as pall bearers.
