CUYAHOGA FALLS- For over three years, Pat struggled with the effects of cancer to her body, yet kept hope that maybe she could beat it one day. On April 12, she lost that long battle, a month short of her 65th birthday and entered into life everlasting. The relentless cancer may have taken her from her friends and loved ones, but her spirit and memory lives on in those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Pat grew up in Kent, OH and was a 1968 graduate of Kent State University School. In 1970 she married Bob Brauning of Cuyahoga Falls, where they eventually settled and raised a family. Her career outside the home was as an administrative assistant, spending the last 15 years in the Office of General Counsel at The University of Akron.

She considered herself as one of God's "worker bees" and enjoyed crafting, gardening, travel, knitting, cooking and just making things. Making memories with family outings and vacations were especially important to her. Not being here to enjoy her five grandchildren will be her greatest sorrow.

Predeceasing Pat were her father Norman (Pete) Shade, sister Janet Sessions and nephew Jeffrey Lutz. She leaves behind her husband Bob, daughter Amy (Mickey) Snyder, son Craig, all of Cuyahoga Falls, Katy Brauning (Vild) of Wadsworth, mother Sandy (Jim) Riley of Stow, sister Dianna (Mark) Lutz and niece Lisa (Neil) Douce of Wooster. She also leaves brothers Mike and Jim Shade and half-brothers Jay, Jason, and Joe Riley. Grandchildren include David, Joie, Evelyn and Lukas Brauning and Tiffany Snyder.

Pat thanks her life-long special friends Mira and Karla, and her dear friend and neighbor Loretta, for everything they did and "being there" for her over the years. The family also thanks the team of medical professionals at Summa's Cooper Cancer Center and their At Home Hospice group, for the wonderful care given to Pat during her greatest time of need.

As she requested, a private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Cremation has already taken place. Memorial gifts can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls Gifts and Memorials Fund or Stewart's Caring Place in Fairlawn, OH.
