Janelle was born to Clarence Young Anthony and Lessie Efie Booth Anthony in Comer, Madison Co. Georgia. She was the first of their 7 children. Her siblings included Ruby Lee Anthony 1913-1980(spouse Claude Everett 'Jack' Young), Ralph D. Anthony 1916-2003, Rabon Franklin Anthony 1918-2006, Linsey Anthony (sister)23 May 1923-7 Dec 1929, Russell William Anthony 1921-1981, and Fred C. Anthony 1923-1995.
Janelle married Joe Walker Simmons 25 Apr 1929 in Comer, GA. Together they had 13 children themselves. At one point Janelle during one of their separations married another man James Barry 'Tooch' Patton. Joe came home after his discharge from the Army and ran Mr. Patton off. It is said after an argument, Joe would throw his hat through the door and if it didn't get thrown back out, he knew he could stay home.
Eventually Joe and Janelle moved to Kannapolis, NC and lived out their lives on West 'C' Street directly across from the West'C' St. cemetery and beside a laundromat. About 1972, Janelle suffered a debilitating stroke losing the use of one side of her body, but she continued to love life and was always up for a game of Gin Rummy.
