Mary Marie SHORT, Coomber, Randall, Osmer was the daughter of Martin and Matilda Short. Her father, Martin enlisted in the MN 9th Volunteers, Company K in January 1864 and died as a Prisoner at Andersonville, GA on 17 August 1864. Mary had two sisters, Elizabeth Jane and Eunice and one brother, George M. Short. Following her father's death, Mary married Henry Coombes/Coomber at the age of 16. They lived in Charfield, MN and then moved to a homestead in western MN near Walnut Grove, MN. In about 1881/82 all the children died from a diphtheria epidemic and Mary returned to Saint Charles, MN. She married Charles Babcock Randall of Saint Charles and had two children, Ruth & Asa Randall. Charles died in 1891 and Mary married Nathan G. Osmer.
"Mrs N.G. Osmer died at her home in this city on Monday morning, May 12, after a very long and painful illness. Her husband died last summer of heart disease. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday morning, conducted by C.T. Hollowell, and the remains buried in Hillside cemetery."
