Alfred R Karpinski (January 10, 1927 - August 17, 1998)
would have been proud grandfather of one beautiful granddaughter. Graduated early from Burgard Vocational School to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945. Served in the Pacific Theater, Guam, Saipan and Tinian during World War II then returned stateside to fulfill his enlistment as a Military Police Officer, visiting every state except Tennessee. Had to sign a waiver to be released at the end of his service because he was thirty pounds lighter than when he entered. Hitchhiked from San Francisco to Buffalo, NY with a Japanese rifle sticking out of his pack, but no one ever questioned it. Married Irene in 1953. Worked at Curtis-Wright, Twin Coach, Houdaille Industries, Studebaker, and 29 years at Republic Steel, all in Buffalo, NY. Father of Alfred L (Holly) and Karen. Member in 1970's of Loyal Order of Moose (South Buffalo) and from 1985 on was a Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (Harvey D. Morin chapter of West Seneca), where he proudly served in the color guard. Retirement found him gardening and friend to the local birds and squirrels when he wasn't coordinating the West Seneca AARP Defensive driving course or being an avid storyteller.
