Florence Finch was the second daughter of Eliza Wilson and Dudley Baldwin Finch. She was born on Valentines Day in 1881, in St.Paul, MN. Florence had an older sister named Lilla Shepheard Finch. Florence grew up in St. Paul, MN and would live most of her life there.

The 1885 census shows her living at 122 Summit Avenue with her father, Dudley, her mother, Eliza, her sister, Lilla and two servants. shortly after that census, she left St. Paul to attend Kemper Hall in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, a school for girls, run by the sisters of St. Mary of New York. In 1899, she graduated from the Collegiate program at Kemper Hall. there were only eleven women in her class. The 1900 census shows Florence again living at 122 Summit Avenue in St. Paul, MN.

On April 14, 1904, she married Edward Bowen Holbert in St. Paul, MN. Their union would produce three children; Dudley Finch Holbert, Edward Bowen Holbert, Jr, and Jane Florence Holbert. The 1910 Census shows Florence living at 703 Lincoln Avenue with her husband, Edward and her two sons, Dudley and Edward B, Jr. In the 1920 Census, the family had moved to 19 Kenwood Parkway with their two boys and their daughter, Florence.

Florence was very adventurous. She loved to travel. When her children were grown, she did a lot of traveling. Between February 8, 1930 and February, 17, 1930, New York Passenger lists show her traveling to Cherbourg, France on a cruise aboard the Westernland. Florence and her husband, Edward traveled to New Orleans and New Orleans passenger records show them taking a cruise from January 26, to February 11th, 1935 aboard the Santa Marta. Florence traveled to Cuba before it became communist. Passenger records from both cruises show Florence and her husband Edward living at 461 Holly Avenue, in St. Paul, MN.

On May 5, 1971, Florence died of old age. She was cremated and her ashes were buried in Oakland Cemetery on May 7th, 1971. Florence is buried in The Wilson-Finch Plot alongside her husband, Edward, and her son, Dudley Finch and his wife, Elizabeth.

Rest in Peace my dear great grandmother! I still remember visiting you as a child in St. Paul and bringing my little wax color book and characters to play with on your porch.
