Henry Kirk White Brainard is the son of William Henry Brainard and Theresa Abigail Bushnell. He was born on June 9, 1845 in Eagle Harbor, New York. He was one of five children born to William and Theresa. He had two brothers, William Oakley, and Charles and three sisters, Helen, Celia, and Cora. As a young man, he was baptized into the Christian Disciples Church.
Henry married Andrea Yensenia Schmechel on October 3, 1869 and their union would produce nine children. Seven would die in infancy and two daughters, Eva and Hennreyette would live into adulthood. We believe their children were...Henreyette who was called Etta, two children died whose names are unknown, child four was Charles who was born and died in 1874. Child five was Roxylena who was born and died in 1875, child six was James who was born and died in 1877, child 7 was Eva who lived into adulthood, child eight was Adam who was born in 1880 and died in 1881, and the ninth child was Bertha who was born and died in 1884.
According to his death certificate, Henry was a mason but we also know he was a berry farmer and grew berries on their farm and brought them into town to sell them two or three times a day. He had been into town selling berries on the day he died.
Henry died suddenly on June 10, 1910, at his home, of a heart attack. His obituary said.."He was a splendid citizen, held in high esteem by everybody. He was a brick and stone mason by trade and many of the homes of Hopkins have their mechanical foundations by the work of his hands. He was a member of the Fraternal Aid."
Henry is buried in the Hopkins Cemetery next to his wife, Andrea and several of his children who died in infancy.
