Ms. Anna May Abernethy, age 87, of Laporte, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte, Pa., with her loving family at her side.

Anna May was born July 30, 1925 in Paoli, Pa., a daughter of the late William Storey Berkey and Marie McBrearty. She graduated from the Tredyffrin/Easttown High School and attended a year at a business college. She worked as a bookkeeper and executive secretary for the National Rolling Mills Company, a steel manufacturer of Malvern, Pa. In 1972 she co-owned the Hotel-Motel Laporte until 1977. After selling the hotel, Anna May returned to Norristown, Pa., where she worked for Woolworth's at King of Prussia until her retirement in 1988. She then returned to Dushore in 1990 and resided in the Sullivan Terrace until she moved to the Highlands in 2010.

Anna May was a member of the Laporte United Methodist Church.

Surviving is her son Shawn (Karen) Abernethy of Laporte, Pa.; four grandchildren Shawn (Sarah) Abernethy of Thorndale, Pa., Heather Abernethy of Pittsburgh, Pa., Amber Abernethy of Thorndale, Pa. and Ian Abernethy of Laporte, Pa.; two nieces Carol Lewis and Susan Duckworth; two nephews Richard Lewis and Steve Lewis.

Anna May was predeceased by two sisters Margaret Berkey in 1988 and Florence Lewis in 2012.

Funeral services will be held at the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, 352 S. Gulph Road, King of Prussia, Pa., on at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14 with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, her pastor, officiating.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614.

The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be sent to the Laporte United Methodist Church, 397 Drake Road, Dushore, PA 18614.
