Birth: 1760
Death: 1830
New Market
Shenandoah County
Virginia, USA

Father: Philip Hupp (B. 1710 in Germany - D. 1761 in Culpeper Co., VA). Mother: Elizabeth Hessen (B. 23 Feb 1710 in Strasburg - D. ca 1794 in Ohio Co., VA now WV)

His father came from Germany near the beginning of the 18th century; went with the family from Culpeper Co, VA to Millsboro, PA, where he lived a short while before returning across the Allegheny's to the Shenandoah Valley of VA; Balser owned 365 acres of land by 1809 north of New Market, Shenandoah Co., VA; his burial site was just north of his farm along the Shenandoah River. (Dave VanDorn)

Bio: Work in progress. June 2013; The above information may or may NOT be correct. Balsar's father may have been a John Hupp aka Hoop.

See: Joseph Floyd Wine's LIFE ALONG HOLMAN'S CREEK.
The front section has maps of the Lord Fairfax Land Grants in the area of interest. Next to the Neffs on Holman's Creek is a John HOOP aka HUPP who would likely be Balser's father.1789, 490 acres. This should be the land patent date, not the date of the grant. Needs some more deed research.

Prof. Daniel Bly, HUPP FAMILY ANCESTORS, VaGenWeb articles. (not dated)

On 12 June 1798, John Hupp and Sarah his wife, sell to Martin Hupp "brother of said John Hupp", 230 acres on the west side of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, part of 490 acres granted to the said John Hupp as heir of Casper Hupp, deceased, 11 Aug. 1789, corner to Dr. John Henry Neff and Jacob Holman. (Shenandoah County Deed Book, L, pg. 253). The Neff and Holman land was near the mouth of Holman's Creek and so this places this land near the present day Shenandoah Caverns.

There was also a Balser Hupp in southern Shenandoah County who was chain carrier on the 1775 survey for Casper "Hope" and he purchased land in the same neighborhood as Casper in 1776.
